ITHACA, N.Y. — The Cornell women's tennis team fell just short against Buffalo, 4-3, at the Reis Tennis Center on Friday afternoon.
In its first dual match since the ECAC Indoor Championships last weekend, Buffalo claimed the opening point thanks to victories at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. Junior
Lauren Stein and freshman
Emma Baker teamed up for a 6-3 victory at No. 1 singles, but the Bulls took the final two matches to get the first point of the match.
Stein and sophomore
Lan Mi recorded straight-set victories to give the Big Red a 2-1 advantage after the completion of the first two singles matches.
Freshmen
Gia Graziano and
Tanya Fan each lost their respective matches with a pair of 6-3 sets, giving Buffalo a 3-2 lead.
Senior
Fatima El Ashram tied the match at 3-all with a 6-4, 6-2 victory at the No. 4 position.
Baker could not solidify the victory for Cornell after winning the opening set, 6-3, as Buffalo's Azra Deniz Comlek logged consecutive 6-4 wins to give the visiting Bulls the victory.
Looking Ahead
Cornell will return to action at the Reis Tennis Center next Friday, Feb. 24, when it hosts James Madison. Doubles matches between the Big Red and Dukes are scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
