ITHACA, N.Y. – The Cornell women's tennis team fell to James Madison, 5-2, at the Reis Tennis Center on Friday evening.
Junior
Lauren Stein and freshman
Emma Baker were victorious in their respective matches at No. 2 and No. 3 singles for the Big Red (1-10).
Senior
Fatima El Ashram and sophomore
Alexandra Savu won at No. 3 doubles, 6-2, despite James Madison taking the doubles point to open the scoring.
The Dukes (4-3) won the first four singles matches to finish, aiding the Dukes to its fourth win of the season.
The top three matches in singles went the distance on Friday. Sophomore
Lan Mi fell to Kylie Moulin at the top position, 6-2, 5-7, 10-5. The loss was Mi's second of the spring season.
Stein and Baker both overcame dropping the opening set by a 6-2 score. In her match over Daria Afanasyeva, Stein had to play a pair of tiebreak matches as she won 7-6 (4), 10-7. Baker had an easier time in her match against Ines Oliveira, 6-4, 6-3.
Looking Ahead
Cornell will head to Pittsburgh for a Monday morning clash against Duquesne. Doubles action between the Big Red and Dukes is scheduled for 10 a.m. at the Alpha Tennis and Fitness of Pittsburgh.
The match will be the Big Red's first true road duals match in nearly a full month since squaring off against Central New York rival Syracuse back on Jan. 27.
