ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Cornell gymnastics team posted yet another season high and celebrated its senior class during Sunday's dual meet against West Chester at Newman Arena. The Big Red had three event winners in posting a 193.575, just short of the Golden Rams' 194.650.
Sophomore
Sydney Beers again was able to shine, winning vault and floor, as well as the all-around (38.700). Her 9.800 vault was matched by teammate
Calista Brady at the top of the charts, with her 9.875 atop the floor rankings. Her score was .025 off a career best and was .075 ahead of six gymnasts who each scored 9.800's. Included among them were Big Red gymnasts
Kate Michelini, Came Whitaker and
Caitlyn Walsh.
Mikayla Burton was the lone Big Red gymnast to finish among the top six on beam, with her 9.800 tied for third.
Maddie Sakalosky was the team's top finisher on bars with a 9.6w5, good for sixth overall.
Cornell's 49.050 mark on floor was just .075 off the school record of 49.125 matched twice in 2018. The Big Red also scored 48.825 on vault and 48.550 on bars, setting themselves up for the season's top finish.
The Big Red will compete at the Ivy Classic on Sunday, Feb. 26 at 1 p.m. at Brown's Pizzitola Sports Center.
