PITTSBURGH — The Cornell women's tennis team snapped its five-match losing streak on Monday morning following a 7-0 sweep of Duquesne at the Alpha Tennis and Fitness of Pittsburgh.
Cornell (2-10) recorded victories in all nine matches played, which included a pair of tiebreak victories in doubles to register the first point of the match.
Junior
Lauren Stein and freshman
Emma Baker improved to 4-2 on the year in doubles following a 6-4 victory at the top doubles spot. Freshman
Gia Graziano and sophomore
Lan Mi, along with sophomore
Alexandra Savu and senior
Fatima El Ashram were the pair of Cornell tandems to win in tiebreaks.
Mi cruised in her match at No. 1 singles, improving to 9-2 in dual matches this season after dropping just one point to Natasha Novak, 6-1, 6-0.
Joining Mi with straight-set victories were Baker (No. 2), El Ashram (No. 4), and freshman
Tanya Fan.
Savu and Graziano each won their matches in three sets to complete the sweep.
Graziano battled with Anastasiia Kotsyuba playing a pair of tiebreak sets, both of which favored the Big Red freshman, 7-6 (3), 3-6, 13-11.
Looking Ahead
Cornell will return to the hardcourt on Sunday, March 12, when it opens a four-match homestand at the Reis Tennis Center against Central New York rival Colgate. Doubles action between the Big Red and Raiders is slated to begin at 12 p.m.
