ITHACA, N.Y. — The Cornell women's tennis team continued its dominance over Central New York rival Colgate on Sunday afternoon with a 6-1 win over the Raiders at the Reis Tennis Center.
Cornell, who is now 3-10 this year, improved to 17-0 all-time against Colgate.
Sophomore
Alexandra Savu and senior
Fatima El Ashram won the first doubles match, 6-2, at the No. 2 position before fellow sophomore
Lan Mi and freshman
Gia Graziano gave Cornell the first point of the day with a 6-4 victory.
Mi coasted in her match at No. 1 singles, not conceding a game to Amelia Galin, 6-0, 6-0.
Savu, who was playing in her first match at the No. 2 singles spot this season, also won in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3, over Emme Levenson.
Freshman
Tanya Fan and Graziano rounded out the straight-set victories for Cornell as Fan won 6-3, 6-2 against Natalie Fuller at the No. 5 position, and Graziano claimed a 7-5, 6-2 victory at the No. 4 position.
El Ashram swept the opening game of her match with Addie Eklund at the No. 3 singles spot. Eklund forced a decisive third set with a 6-2 set win. The third set favored El Ashram with a 6-4 win.
Colgate's Katerina Atallah claimed the lone point for the Raiders (7-4) after winning by default.
Looking Ahead
Cornell will continue its four-match homestand when it plays Columbia in its Ivy League opener on Saturday, March 25. Doubles action from the Reis Tennis Center is scheduled for a noon start.
