ITHACA, N.Y. --
Ania McNicholas tallied a team-high 23 points, but Cornell women's basketball fell to Princeton at home, 63-52, on Friday night.
Princeton jumped out to an 18-5 lead of over the first seven minutes of play, but McNicholas made back-to-back three pointers to bring Cornell within seven at 18-11. McNicholas scored all 11 of the first Cornell points. The Tigers maintained the seven point lead to close out the first quarter, 22-15.
The Big Red would keep the Tigers scoreless through the first 5:53 of the second quarter, while notching seven points to knot the game at 22, punctuated with a McNicholas three-pointer. Princeton responded with an 11-3 run to lead by eight at halftime.
The third quarter opened with a 5-0 Cornell run to bring the deficit to three, but Princeton powered its lead to double-digits less than three minutes later. The Tigers never dropped their lead below 10 the rest of the game, going on to win by 11.
OF NOTE
- McNicholas's 23 points is the third time this season a Cornell player has scored 20+ in a single contest, and the second 20+ point performance of her career.
- Shannon Mulroy earned 10 points in the contest for her seventh time this year, and 23 time in her career.
- Cornell held the Princeton offense to 27.3% shooting from three, lower than the Tiger's season average of 32.3%.
