Men's Polo Opens Spring Half of the Season With Big Win

ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Cornell men's polo team opened the spring stretch with a 27-8 win over Tinicum Park. Pablo Herrera scored eight different times for nine points in the contest, appearing in just two chukkers.

Benito Jaramillo was the first scorer of the day, netting a penalty shot to open the first chukker. Herrera followed it up with a goal from behind the 25-yard line to add two more. Jaramillo and Hererra would expand the lead to 5-0 before Tinicum Park found their first goal of the game, but Cornell would expand its lead to 8-1 by the end of the first chukker.

Patricio Fraga had the first goal of the second chukker, followed by a sixth point by Herrera. Nick Paciorek tallied his frist and second goals back-to-back to expand the Big Red lead to 11. Herrera finished out his day with three more goals to hit his ninth point, closing out the second chukker with a 15-1 lead after holding Tinicum Park to zero.

It would be Fraga who got the first goal of the third chukker, followed by a live-game goal an penalty shot from Jaramilllo. Tinicum would finid the net just once in the third to bring the deficit to 18-2, but the Big Red would build the lead back out to as many as 21-2 by the end of the third chukker.

The fourth saw even more Big Red goals, including a three-point performance by Christian Finlay, who hit a shot from beyond the 25-yard line for two, and finished up his day with the third to final goal at 26-7.
