BALTIMORE, MD - Cornell traveled to Baltimore for a three-day slate of games at the Retriever Classic, splitting a pair of contests on Friday afternoon. The Big Red won the opener against Merrimack, 5-4, before falling to Morgan State by a 7-1 margin.
The Big Red was eager to return to the diamond after a two week break after its opener. It didn't look good early for Cornell.
The Warriors jumped out to a 4-0 lead with runs from Ellen Hubbard (two), Sydney Samuel (one), and Madison Cerpa (one). Sophomore infielder Emma Atich took the plate at the top of the fourth inning with teammates
Lauren Holt,

She blasted a shot to center that would soar beyond the gates for a Cornell go-ahead home-run. Her shot proved to be a gamer-winner as the Big Red earned the win, 5-4.Â
Gabrielle Maday and Maddie Covelli split time on the mound, combining for nine strikeouts in the victory.
Morgan State took advantage of a Big Red squad playing the second of back-to-back games. The Bears got off to a fast start and ran off with a 7-1 victory.
Maicie Levitt lapped the bases for her second opening-day run at the Retriever Classic.
