ITHACA, N.Y. — A close Ivy League-opening contest between Cornell and Columbia favored the visiting Lions as they posted a 5-2 victory over the Big Red at the Reis Tennis Center on Saturday afternoon.
The setback snapped Cornell's two-match win streak, as the Big Red is now 3-11 overall on the year.
Columbia opened the match with the first two points as the Lions swept the first two doubles matches and took the opening singles match at the No. 6 position.
Sophomore
Lan Mi and junior
Lauren Stein evened the match at 2-all with a pair of straight-set victories. Mi defeated Anna Zhang, 6-3, 7-5, and Stein conceded just five points to Sophia Wang, 6-3, 6-2.
The last three matches to finish all went in Columbia's favor as a pair of straight-set victories solidified the victory for the Lions, who improved to 7-6 on the year.

Cornell returns to action at the Reis Tennis Center on Saturday, April 1, when it hosts Central New York rival Binghamton. First matches are scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
