Game Recap: Softball |

Softball Earns First Victory at Soldiers Field Since 2013

CAMBRIDGE, Ma - Cornell softball traveled to Cambridge, Massachusetts to take the diamond with Ivy-League foe Harvard. After a schedule change (due to weather), Cornell and Harvard were slated to play in a Friday doubleheader followed by a single game on Saturday (three-game series). Cornell opened up the series with it's first win against Harvard at Soldiers Field since 2013, 5-4. Harvard would avenge their loss with a 6-0 shutout in the second game of the doubleheader.

Game One
The Crimson struck early and often, jumping out to a 4-0 first-inning lead with runs coming from Lauren Bobowski, Madi Mays, Finley Payne, and Trina Hoang. The Big Red responded with a three-run second inning. Kate Callaway reached on a throwing error, sending Mari Zorrilla to third base, while Ella Harrod and Maicie Levitt got to home-plate. Emma Antich would follow with a double down the left-field line, which was good enough to bat in Zorrilla. Reagen London scored in the third-inning on a hit from Zorrilla, knotting the game at four. Celia Macari doubled to right field, which aided Antich in a lap around the bases for a go-ahead run. Three straight scoring innings pushed the Big Red pass Harvard, securing its first victory at Soldiers Field since 2013. Gabrielle Maday was credited with the win on the mound, allowing nine hits (four runs) against 32 batters in seven innings played.

Game Two
Harvard avenged it's opening loss of the day against Cornell, with a 6-0 shutout, coming on the back of a five-run sixth inning. The Crimson entered the sixth with a 1-0 lead, thanks to Madi Mays's opening-inning ground out to third base, which batted Hoang to home-plate. The Big Red hoped to go into the final inning with a chance at a doubleheader sweep. Harvard proceeded to tack on five runs (Dickerson, Payne, Heffley, Welsh, and Shaw), which served as too big a deficit for Cornell to overcome. Mia Burd fell to 2-3 on the mound, while Katie Arrambide (Harvard) notched her second victory of the season.
