HAMILTON, N.Y. - The Big Red traveled to Hamilton, New York for a mid-week doubleheader against crosstown rival Colgate. The Big Red exploded for six runs in the sixth-inning to earn a 7-1 victory in the first of two. Colgate were the winners of the second matchup taking a 8-3 win from Eaton Street Softball Complex.
Game One:
Rachel Carney got things going with a first-inning tally on a center field double from Quinn Livesay. Both teams were quiet at the plate until the sixth.
Sydney Stapf took the batters box with plans to put the Big Red in the lead with a runner on base. Stapf singled to left field sending
Emma Antich and
Kate Callaway home to put Cornell ahead 2-1. Ivy-League home run leader
Lauren Holt followed that with a grand slam to extend the Big Red's lead to 6-1. Callaway would register an unearned run in the seventh, her second score of the day, as an insurance marker. Cornell snapped it's six game losing skid, and delivered Colgate it's first home loss of the season, 7-1.
Gabrielle Maday earned the victory on the mound.
Game Two:
Colgate looked to avenge it's first home loss of the season in the second half of the doubleheader with Cornell. The Raiders registered six consecutive runs through three innings as they jumped out to a 6-0 advantage.
Kate Callaway (one earned run, one unearned run) and
Emma Antich (one homer) put the Big Red on the board, but it was not enough as Colgate cruised to an 8-3 victory to close out the doubleheader.Â
