ITHACA, N.Y. - Cornell took the diamond with defending Ivy champion Princeton on Saturday for doubleheader action at Niemand-Robison Field. Princeton led the first game by nine runs, as Cornell the Big Red stromed back to ultimately fall short to the Tigers, 10-9. Cornell and Princeton traded places in the run column for the second game, with the Big Red avenging it's game one set back with a 10-9 victory of its own.
Game One
The Tigers rattled off nine consecutive runs to put Cornell's backs against the wall at the bottom of the fifth. A couple of errors and wild pitches thrusted the Big Red into a four run scoring burst from
Lauren Holt,
Ella Harrod,
Julie Hilcken, and
Celia Macari, helping them avoid the run-rule and keep the game alive.Sablone tacked another tally for the Tigers in the seventh inning making the contest seemingly out of reach.
Maicie Levitt and
Emma Antich scored in the bottom of the seventh, bringing a hopeful rally back within striking distance. Hilcken gave the Big Red just what it needed, a homer that lapped her along with Travieso and Marissa Zorrilla, chopping the deficit down to just one. The Tigers would close it out, earning themselves a victory from Niemand-Robison Field.
Game Two
The Big Red found it's mojo towards the end of game one, and looked to use that momentum to spring a fast start in game two. Three Princeton runs put the pressure on Cornell out of the gates.

Julie Hilcken proved that pressure makes diamonds by rattling off six consecutive runs to give Cornell it's first lead of the series.
The squads would go back and forth with runs leading to an eventual 10-5 Big Red advantage in the seventh. Similar to Cornell in the previous matchup, Princeton would give a strong rally effort, lapping the bases four times in the final stanza, but still came up short by just a single run.
Mia Burd earned the victory on the mound.

Cornell and Princeton will return to Niemand-Robison Field tomorrow at 12:30 p.m. for a winnner-takes-series matchup. Game action will be broadcasted to ESPN+.
