PROVIDENCE, R.I. — The Cornell women's tennis team fell to No. 69-ranked Brown, 4-2, on Saturday afternoon at the Varsity Tennis Courts in the Creative Capital.
Cornell fell to 5-15 overall and 1-5 in Ivy League play while Brown improved its record to 17-7 and 5-1 in Ancient Eight play.
Brown's first two doubles tandems of Britany Lau and Addison Ahlstrom and Vivian Miller and Nora Lee claimed respective 6-3 and 6-1 victories to give the Bears the first point of the day.
Junior
Lauren Stein and freshman
Gia Graziano posted victories for the Big Red in singles action.
Stein overcame dropping the first set to Miller, 6-3, with commanding 6-0, 6-2 set victories.
Graziano won in straight sets over Olivia Mariotti, 6-2, 6-4, in the No. 6 match.
Freshman
Emma Baker was the lone Big Red player to lose in three sets. Baker won the opening set, 6-2, but was only able to win two games against Lau in the next two sets, 6-1, 6-1.
Sophomore
Alexandra Savu and senior
Fatima El Ashram both fell in straight sets in the No. 4 and No. 5 singles matches.
Looking Ahead
Cornell will conclude its regular-season slate on Sunday when it travels to New Haven, Conn., to play Yale. Doubles action is scheduled to begin at noon.
