ITHACA, N.Y. - Cornell and Penn took the diamond on Saturday for the final game of its three-game series from Niemand-Robison Field. The Big Red took care of business, completing the series sweep with a 3-1 victory.
The Quakers opened up the tallies in the first inning, bringing home a run to get off to a 1-0 start. Madelyn Covelli had to be escorted to the Cornell dugout in the fourth, after an unfortunate sequence in which the ball was line driven into her knee.
Mia Burd entered the game in relief.
Lauren Holt stepped up to the plate at the bottom of the fourth and did what she has done time and time again, smash a Big Red homer to knot the game at 1-1. Tied up in the bottom of the sixth, Cornell tacked on two clutch runs from
Ella Harrod and
Julie Hilcken due to a single from
Maicie Levitt. This would prove to be enough as
Mia Burd earned her second victory from the mound in as many days.
