Lan Mi and freshman
Emma Baker each posted victories in their respective singles matches in Cornell women's tennis team's 4-2 loss to Penn at the Reis Tennis Center on Friday afternoon.
Cornell, following the result, is now 4-12 on the year and 0-2 in Ivy League play.
Penn took the first point of the day after posting 6-2 and 6-3 victories at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles. Mi and junior
Lauren Stein were trailing 6-5 to Iris Gallo and Maya Urata in the No. 2 match at the time doubles action was halted.
Urata claimed the Quakers' second point of the day after defeating senior
Fatima El Ashram, 6-2, 6-2, in the No. 5 singles match.
Baker gave Cornell its first point of the day after conceding just three points to Juliana Munhoz, 6-3, 6-0, before Mi evened the match at 2-all following a three-set win over Eileen Wang in the top singles match, 4-6, 6-1, 6-1.
Saige Roshkoff defeated
Gia Graziano, 7-5, 6-4, in No. 6 singles and Gallo edged sophomore
Alexandra Savu, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, in the No. 3 singles match to bring Penn's record to 11-5 overall and 1-1 in Ivy League play.
Looking Ahead
Cornell will return to action on Sunday when it travels to Princeton, N.J., to take on No. 48-ranked Princeton at 1 p.m.
