Men’s Lacrosse Falls To Harvard On The Road

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- In a defensive battle, Cornell men's lacrosse lost to Harvard, 10-8, on Saturday, April 8. The Big Red drops to 7-2 (3-1 Ivy), while Harvard improves to 5-4 (2-1 Ivy).

The Big Red attack was led by CJ Kirst, who tallied four goals and an assist for five points. Brian Piatelli notched his third hat trick this season. Goalkeeper Chayse Ierlan had 14 saves in the outing.

Harvard's Andrew Perry had a hat trick and an assist for four points. Seven other Crimson scored. Goalkeeper Christian Barnard had 16 saves on the day.

QUARTER 1
  • The Big Red jumped out to a 3-0 lead after less than five minutes of play in the books.
  • Harvard scored its first goal at the 8:38 mark, following it up with another at 7:10 remaining, bringing the Cornell lead after one to 3-2.
QUARTER 2
  • Hugh Kelleher sprinted downhill from inside the neutral zone to net the first Big Red goal of the second quarter, building a 4-2 lead.
  • The Crimson found the net twice in the final three minutes of play, including a goal with 21 seconds left. This knot the game at four heading into halftime.
QUARTER 3
  • Harvard got its first lead of the day just under six minutes into the second half, when Perry tallied his second of the day on an assist from Sam King.
  • Kirst tied the game at five with 4:18 to go in the quarter, but Perry competed his hat trick at the 1:14 mark to reclaim the Crimson lead.
QUARTER 4
  • Harvard made it a three goal lead to open the fourth with goals at 12:53 and 12:11.
  • Kirst tallied back-to-back goals to cut the Harvard lead to one, but the Crimson closed on a 2-1 run to seal the win.

Cornell has a quick turnaround when it returns home to host Marquette in the two teams first ever meeting. The action is set to go down on Tuesday, April 11, at 12 p.m. on Schoellkopf Field.
