ITHACA, N.Y. -- Sydney Moore, a rising senior on the Big Red Volleyball team, was named the Student of the Year at the Black Student Athlete (BSA) Summit this past May at the University of Southern California. Moore was honored alongside Kendra Ezeama and Myles Rice for their outstanding commitment to bettering the experience of college athletes of color.

The award honors Black student athletes that exemplify the essence of the BSA Summit, and who have worked towards and modeled the goals of the BSA Summit both on their campus and in their lives. Student athletes awarded with this receive a $5,000 scholarship.

At the summit, Moore spoke on a panel discussing the experience of being a Black athlete at an Ivy League school and the challenges that come with that. Her work here at Cornell and on a national scale has been aimed at helping student athletes of color succeed in sports and beyond. As the co-president of Women of Color in Athletics (WOCA), she has helped to create connections and support systems between women of color across Big Red athletics.

Last year, Moore was one of five student athletes awarded at the 2022 ESPYs with the Billie Jean King Youth Leadership Award for creating change in the world via sports.

In her junior season, Moore led her team in blocks with 64, ranking 9th in the Ivy League. She started in 17 of 19 matches and had a career high 15 kills in a five set matchup at Penn.
