Field Hockey Welcomes Seven to 2023 Roster

ITHACA, N.Y. -- Field hockey season is on the horizon at Cornell off the heals of a historic season, where the team finished in the top-25 nationally, had its first top-5 win in program history, and saw the first national player of the week honors. Andy Smith, the head coach of field hockey, has spent the off season adding new recruits to fill the spots lost by the senior class. The Cornell field hockey Class of 2027 here.

#1 Martha Broderick

Fr. • Goalkeeper • 5-6 • Bury St. Edmunds, Suffolk, England (Repton School)
Three-time National Outdoor Champion (2019, 2020, 2022) ... two-time National Indoor Champion (2020, 2022) ... named a Sports Scholar at Repton ... played club hockey for Repton HC, Beeston HC, and Belper HC ... u16 Indoor National Champion with Repton HC (2020) ... u18  Naitonal Outdoor Plate runners-up (2022).

Coach's Comments: "An incredibly talented goalkeeper with a massive personality."
 

#3 Emma Poplyk

Fr. • Midfielder • 5-2 • Acton, Mass. (Acton Boxborough Regional HS)
NFHCA All-Region Team in 2021 ... 2021 ISL All-League honoree ... All-NEPSAC (2021) ... team captain in 2022 ... three-sport athlete with field hockey, lacrosse, and basketball ... eight-time honor roll recognizee ... played club hockey for Wizards Field Hockey.

Coach's Comments: "A product of Massachusetts, a midfielder with the ability to play at the highest level."
 

#8 Ashley Plzak

Four-year varsity starter at Downingtown West ... 2022 captain ... 2021 All-State second-team honoree ... honored all four years on an All-Chest-Mont League team, including two first-team appearances (2021, 2022) ... four-time Chest-Mont National Division Champions ... played club hockey with the WC Eagles ... named class of 2023 MAX Field Hockey Top 100 players ... also played lacrosse in high school.

Coach's Comments: "An out-and-out goalscorer from Pennsylvania. Plays at the WC Eagles Club - deadly in front of goal."
 

#10 Polly Parsons-Hills

Two-time All-State first-team honoree ... two-time All-Region honoree ... three-time All-FCIAC honoree ... 2022 Northeast Region High School Player to Watch ... 2022 captain ... 2023 NFHCA All-southern New England Region Frist-Team ... four-year starter ... played club hockey with AGH.

#12 Annabel Cheveley

Two-time captain at of the u18 team at Sevenoaks ... runner-up in the u18 National Cup ... runner-up iin the u18 indoor county tournament and advanced to regionals in the 2021-22 season ... won the 2022-23 u18 indoor county tournament and advanced to regionals ... played club hockey with HC Knoll Park ... u18 indoor national champion ... ladies indoor division two champions in the 2021-22 season.

Coach's Comments: "A product of the Oak Knoll production line. Can play on the forward line or midfield, younger sister of Caroline `23."
 

#27 Sarah Burns

Fr. • Defense • 5-4 • Morristown, N.J. (Oak Knoll)
Four-year varsity starter for Kennett HS ... two-time captain ... All-Area Southeastern PA First-Team honoree her junior season ... named to a All-Chesmont League team all four year, including first-team appearances her junior and senior years ... named the Top-Performer for MAX Field Hockey National High School Invitational All-Tournament Teams (2022) ... played club hockey for the WC Eagles, earned two National Indoor Tournament bracket wins ... also a two-year starter for her high school softball team.
