Cornell Finishes 12th at Temple Invitational

PLYMOUTH MEETING, Pa -- The Cornell golf team hit the links early Sunday morning for the final round of the Temple Invitational, rising one spot to finish 12th overall.

The Big Red carded a combined 607 over the two-day tournament, including shaving three strokes off its Saturday score (305) with a 302 on Sunday. Junior Jackson Debusschere was the highest finisher for the Big Red, shaving five strokes off his Saturday scorecard to finish tied for 35th with a 149 over the two-day tournament. Freshman Viktor Stollinger also had a great Sunday for Cornell, shooting a two-over 72 to rise 21 spots to finish tied for 40th.

Junior Char Russekoff finished third for the Big Red, rising from 75th place on Saturday with a two-over 72 on Sunday to share a tie for 53rd, while Tyler Debusschere fell from 18th on Saturday to finish fourth in the rotation a 14-over 154 to finish in a tie for 60th. 

Sophomore Weston Warden finished a spot behind the younger Debusschere with a 15-over 155 after shooting a 79 on Sunday. And junior Matt Simon rounded out the scorecard, matching his 79 from Saturday to finished tied for 66th at 18-over.

Drexel held onto its lead from Saturday, shooting a 3-over 283 on Sunday to take home the team championship. Rider finished second in the tournament after knocking ten strokes off its Saturday score with a 281 on Sunday to card a 572 overall. Penn (574) finished third overall in the invitational, while the two teams from Temple rounded out the top five with a 575 and 581.

Lehigh's David Hurley was the medalist for the invitational, rising from 12th on Saturday with a tournament-best 4-under 66 on Sunday to finish one shot clear of Drexel's Oscar Maxfield.

The Big Red hit the road again in two weeks for the Columbia Autumn Invitational at the Lake Placid Club on Sept. 30-31 in Lake Placid, N.Y. Cornell finished tied for 3rd in the event last season after shooting the best 54-hole score in program history with a one-under-par 851.
