Women's Ice Hockey Takes Exhibition Contest Against Toronto, 8-3

ITHACA, N.Y. - The Cornell women's ice hockey team defeated the University of Toronto, 8-3, in an exhibition contest on Sunday evening at Lynah Rink. Five Big Red skaters had multi-point games, including Izzy Daniel, Mckenna Van Gelder, and Lily Delianedis, who all had three apiece with one goal and two assists.

The Big Red jumped out in front just two-minutes after puck drop, when Van Gelder found the back of the net, assisted by United States national team gold medalist, Rory Guilday. The Varsity Blues responded one-minute later with a tally of their own, coming from Katy Mckenna.

Penalties became abundant for the remainder of the opening period, with both teams combining for six total. Freshman forward Abby Thibideau netted the puck seconds after the conclusion of the Big Red being a skater down. The next three power-plays between the squads would reign successful, as Kaitlin Jockims and Daniel scored for Cornell, followed by Francesca Monte taking advantage for Toronto, leaving the count at 4-2.

The Cornellians put in three goals in the second period, coming from Lily Delianedis (36-seconds in), transfer forward Katie Chan, and first-year forward Karel Prefontaine.

Entering the final period leading 7-2, Big Red first-year skater Beatrice Perron-Roy scored the first goal 17-minutes in to push the lead to 8-2. Taylor Trussler of Toronto closed the lid on the points for the day, stealing the puck and skating down the ice for an unassisted goal.

Senior goaltender Deanna Fraser and freshman goalie Annelise Bergmann split ice time for the Big Red. Fraser finished the game with six saves and two goals against. Bergmann had one save and one goal against.
