ITHACA, N.Y. - The Cornell women's ice hockey team outlasted the University of Ottawa, 2-1, in the final tune up game on Saturday night at Lynah Rink. The Big Red goals were scored by freshman forward
Karel Prefontaine and senior forward
Izzy Daniel.
Nine minutes was all it took for
Grace Dwyer to find Prefontaine slashing toward the net for a go-ahead tip in. Daniel tallied the next goal midway through the second period, when
Katie Chan and
Lily Delianedis connected and found Daniel lurking on the far side of the net to increase the advantage to 2-0.
Keara Merriman of stole the puck and skated down the ice for an unassisted Ottawa goal in the final period. The Gee Gees would fail to find the back of the net again, making room for the Big Red to pick up the 2-1 victory.
Three goalies saw action in the net for Cornell (Brynn Dulac,
Annelies Bergmann,
Belle Mende), with Dulac being creditted for the win with three saves during her second period stint in net. Bergmann finished the game with two saves, and Mende led the Cornell goaltenders with four. Mahika Sarrazin of Ottawa was tested 34 times on the net, registering 32 saves.
