Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

Late Surge Not Enough For Big Red As Colgate Skates Away With 6-3 Victory

ITHACA, N.Y. - The no. 8-ranked Cornell women's ice hockey team dropped an ECAC Hockey contest to no. 5-ranked Colgate at Lynah Rink on Friday night. The Big Red falls to 13-4-1, while the Raiders improve to 19-3-1 on the year.

Kaitlin Jockims (short-handed), Karel Prefontaine (unassisted), and Lily Delianedis scored Big Red goals on the night. Gabbie Rud collected the lone helper for Cornell in the game.

The opening 10-minutes were favored by the Raiders, who sent 10 shots Bergmann's way, where none were able to find the back of the net.

At the 12-minute mark, the Big Red allowed Colgate a breakaway which they would take advantage of to give them a 1-0 lead. Four minutes later Colgate tacked on another one to double their lead.

The second period proved to be similar as far as the scoreboard was concerned, with Colgate scoring two straight goals and holding the Big Red scoreless.

Trailing 4-0 to open the third period, Cornell won the faceoff short-handed and found a grade-A opportunity in front of the net which Jockims would cash in to chip the Raider advantage to three.

Kalty Kaltounkova responded three minutes later to move the Raiders advantage back to four. A costly contact to the head infraction would give Cornell a major power-play opportunity down 5-1 with roughly 13 minutes left in the game. Prefontaine slapped the puck past Osborne to give the Big Red a much-needed tally. The Raiders would kill the remainder of the major-penalty.

With time winding down, Delianedis scored an impressive goal that would move the score to 5-3. The Big Red would pull their goalie with hopes of netting a pair of goals in the final two minutes, but it would back-fire resulting in an empty-net game-sealing goal from Elyssa Biederman.

Big Red netminder Annelies Bergmann suffered her fourth loss between the pipes, collecting 24 saves on the night. Her record moves to 9-4-1.
