SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Freshman
Michelle Ryndin was the lone Big Red to grab a win on Sunday afternoon as Cornell suffered its first loss of duals competition, falling to Syracuse, 6-1. The Big Red falls to 2-1 on the season while Syracuse improves to 4-0.
The Orange opened the day with wins in all three doubles matches.
Jenny Wong and
Martina Marica lost to Ines Fonte and Polina Kozyreva, 6-2, in the No. 3 match.
Lauren Stein and Emm Baker battled in the No. 1 match, but fell, 7-5, to Miyuka Kimoto and Emilie Elde.
Alexandra Savu and
Michelle Ryndin rounded out doubles with a 7-6 (7-1).
Savu also fell in the No. 6 singles match, dropping to Constance Levivier 6-2, 6-1. No. 2 singles wrapped up next, with Kozyreva topping Baker 6-1, 6-1. Stein dropped to Kimoto in the top match, 6-4, 6-1.
Gia Graziano finished nest, falling 6-2, 6-1 in the No. 5 match. Wong lost in the No. 4 match 6-0, 6-4. Ryndin finished up the day, stealing the No. 3 match 6-3, 6-4 over Emilie Elde.
Cornell is back to the court beginning on Friday, Feb. 9 when the team travels to the ECAC Indoor Championships. Matches will played in Cambridge, Mass.
