CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- Cornell women's tennis dropped a 4-1 decision to the No. 1-seeded Princeton Tigers in the first round of the ECAC Indoor Championship on Friday morning. Princeton improved to 5-1 and Cornell fell to 2-2.
Alexandra Savu and
Michelle Ryndin battled Eva Elbaz and Leena Bennetto in the No. 2 doubles match, falling 6-3. Lauren Stien and
Emma Baker grabbed a 6-3 victory in the No. 1 doubles over Maia Sung and Bella Chhiv, leveling the doubles play at one.
Victoria Zhao and
Jenny Wong fought for extra tennis, but Alice Ferlito and Madeline Jessup finished off the No. 3 doubles, 7-5, to secure the first point for the Tigers.
Bennetto topped
Emma Baker in the No. 2 singles, 6-2, 6-0, but Ryndin got the Big Red point in the No. 3 singles match, beating Jessup 6-2, 6-3. Princeton's Neha Velaga and Ferlito took the final two matches, beating
Lauren Stein and
Gia Graziano. The No. 6 match went down as unfinished, but
Alexandra Savu and Bella Chhiv had split the first two matches 6-4, 2-6.
The Big Red will play the loser between No. 5-seeded Yale and No. 4-seeded Harvard tomorrow, Feb. 10, at 8 a.m.
