Lightweight Rowing V8+ Medals at Head of the Charles

BOSTON — Cornell's men's lightweight rowing V8+ crew finished second in the Men's Lightweight Eight at the Head of the Charles on the Charles River in suburban Boston on Sunday afternoon.

The medal for the Cornell lightweight rowing team marks the ninth time in its last 10 appearances that it has had a podium finish at the annual highly-regarded regatta.

Harvard registered a wire-to-wire victory in the event, clocking a time of 14:09.094, which was 9.418 seconds ahead of Cornell's time of 14:18.512.

Cornell reached the Riverside after 3:16.939 of racing, which was the fourth-best time, trailing Harvard (3:12.340), Princeton 'A' (3:15.831), and Georgetown (3:16.388). The Big Red took possession of second place upon cross the marker at the Weld after logging the second-fastest split (4:34.694), only behind Harvard (4:32.150).

At the conclusion of racing, only 1.412 seconds separated Cornell from Dartmouth, who placed fifth with a time of 14:19.924. Penn's 'A' crew, which finished in third place, finished 391-thousandths of a second behind Cornell (14:18.903). Princeton placed fourth with its 14:19.302 time, which was 790-thousandths of a second slower than Cornell.

In the men's lightweight four, Cornell had two of the 10 entries in the event. Cornell's 'A' crew was the top-finishing crew of the Big Red pair, finishing in fifth place with a 16:23.510 time, while the 'B' crew finished ended in eighth (16:43.743).

A LOOK UPSTREAM
Cornell will return to the water on Sunday, Nov. 3, when it travels to Princeton, N.J., for its annual trip to the Princeton Chase.

Last season was a successful showing for the Big Red as it registered six first-place finishes at the event, which was highlighted by Cornell's V8+ placing first for the first time at the annual event since 2018.
