ITHACA, N.Y. — Despite a second-half resurgence, the #9 Cornell women's ice hockey team falls to Union 3-2 on Friday afternoon at Lynah Rink. The Big Red dropped to 1-3-1 on the season, while the Garnet Chargers improved to 5-6.
The Big Red notched two goals in the loss. The first came in the second period from Katie Chan with Ashley Messier and Lily Delianedis being credited for the assists. The second was an unassisted goal by Delaney Fleming.
The Big Red came out struggling on offense with only six shots in the first period and no goals, while the Garnet Chargers capitalized on its nine shots with a goal from Karianne Engelbet.
Cornell picked up the pace in the second period, finding the back of the net twice on nine shots, with the goals from Chan and Fleming. Union slowed down in shooting in the second period with only two shots, but Jill Willis was able to make her shot count and ended the period 3-2.
With Cornell having 12 shots in the third period and limiting Union to just one, it looked like a spark was lit in the Big Red, however it was unable to convert to a point on the board and the game would end 3-2 after a scoreless third period.

The Cornell women's ice hockey team will return to action on Saturday Nov. 2 against RPI. Puck drop is slated for 3:00 p.m. at Lynah Rink. Game action will be broadcast on ESPN+.
