ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Cornell fencing team will put its unbeaten record on the line when it faces some of the nation's best teams at Penn's Elite Invitational on Sunday, Nov. 17 at the Tse Center. The Big Red will face four nationally ranked opponents among its five matches on Sunday with action beginning at 8:30 a.m.
Cornell, ranked No. 8 in the country in the US Fencing Coaches' Association Preseason Poll, brings a perfect 13-0 record into the weekend with the highlight a 15-12 victory over No. 12 Yale last weekend at the Vassar Invitational. The Big Red will face No. 11 Temple, No. 14 Stanford, No. 5 Northwestern, unranked North Carolina and No. 7 Penn in succession as it attempts to climb the national ladder.
After two weekends, all three weapons are holding win percentages of better than 80 percent, with the sabre squad at nearly 85 percent. In epee, All-American
Ketki Ketkar (9-0) and
Nora Weber (7-0) remain unbeaten, while 13 different fencers have won double-digit bouts. Foil's
Brianna Lee leads the way with her 24-3 overall record, while epeeist
Natalie Leung (19-1) and
Samantha Marsee (19-2) in sabre both have 19 victories. All 21 fencers who have competed for the Big Red this season boast a winning record.
