STREAKS, STORYLINES & SIDEBARS 

  • Cornell women's basketball starts the season 1-0 heading into game two of the season for the first time since 2021. 
  • Tipoff against the Scarlet Knights on Thursday, Nov. 7 at 7:00 p.m. The game will be streamed Big10+.
  • The Big Red welcome new Rebecca Quinn Morgan ‘60 Head Coach of Women’s Basketball this season in Emily Garner. Garner came from Trinity College where she served as the head coach since 2016. Garner picked up her first win at the helm of the program against Army n Monday, Nov. 4.
  • Cornell was selected seventh in the Ivy League preseason media poll.
  • Cornell finished 7-19 in the 2023-24 season, ending at seventh in the Ancient Eight. 
  • Clarke Jackson led Cornell in scoring the season opener with 16 points.  Emily Pape led in rebounds with 12. Kelsey Langston led the team in assists with 3.

  • Fiona Hastick began the quarter with a quick and easy layup off of the tip for Army.
  • Cornell and Army then went back and forth until the Big Red had back-to-back threes from junior Emily Pape and sophomore Rachel Kaus opened up the Cornell lead to 14-9 with 1:21 left in the quarter.
  • The Black Knights Kya Smith was fouled and made both of her free throws with ten seconds left to make the score 14-11 in favor of Cornell at the end of the first quarter.
  • Camryn Tade immediately drained a three and tied the game at the top of the second quarter and Kya Smith then made a layup to give Army the lead 16-14 with 9:17 left in the half.
  • After going back and forth, sophomore Azareya Kilgoe made a three to shift the lead back in Cornell's favor and start a 16-8 run for the Big Red to end the half with Cornell in the lead 32-26.
  • Clarke Jackson started off the second half scoring with a layup as the Big Red started the second half on a 7-3 run.
  • Army responded with a run of its own as the Black Knights went on a 10-0 run to tie the game at 39 with 2:06 left in the third quarter. 
  • Clarke Jackson hit a jumper and Summer Parker-Hall made two free throws to end the third quarter with Cornell in the lead 43-39.
  • The fourth quarter started with two fouls on Cornell and four back-to-back free throws made for Army to tie the game at 43 with 7:52 left in the game.
  • Kya Smith then made a layup for Army to put them up 45-43 with 7:09 left. 
  • Azareya Kilgoe hit a three and began a 7-0 Cornell run to put the Big Red up 50-46. 
  • After a free throw made by Army, Cornell went on a 4-0 run before Army made two more free throws to make the score 54-49 with 54 seconds left in play.
  • The teams traded free throws until Reese Ericson drained a deep three for Army to make the score 58-54.
  • Cornell was then fouled with five seconds left, made both free throws and had a defensive stop to win the game 60-54.
