NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Cornell women's ice hockey team defeated the Yale Bulldogs 2-0 on Friday night at Ingalls Rink. Cornell improved to 3-3-1, while the Bulldogs dropped to 3-2-1.
Kaitlin Jockims and
Avi Adam registered Big Red goals in the contest.
Gabbie Rud, Avar Lindzi,
Mckenna Van Gelder, and
Ashley Messier.
Annelies Bergmann stopped 33 Bulldog-opportunities on the night.
Jockims opened the scoring at the 14:39-minute mark of the opening period. Adam extended Cornell's lead to 2-0 at 15:26 in the second period, when she made it count from Van Gelder and Messier.
As the second period came to a close, Jockims would be tabbed with a game-misconduct for hitting-from-behind, resulting in a five-minute major for the Big Red.
With a 2-0 advantage in the third period, the Big Red was tasked with stopping a pair of power-plays, including the major. The Big Red defensive-core along with Bergmann stood tall, not allowing the Bulldogs to find the back of the net. The sophomore net-minder was able to manage eight saves in the final stanza to ice Cornell's second ECAC Hockey victory of the season.
Bergmann improved to 3-3-1 in net for the Big Red this season, clinching her fourth shutout of the year which ties her season total from her rookie campaign.
