EVANSTON, IL —- The Cornell women's basketball team lost to Northwestern 67-54 and fell to 3-6 overall on the season on Sunday afternoon in Evanston. In the loss, Summer Parker-Hall picked up her first double-double of the season by leading Cornell in points with 16 and rebounds with 14.
Parker-Hall not only led the team in points and rebounds, but also led in assists with six and steals with two. Vivienne Knee and Paige Engels led the team in blocks with one each.
The Big Red were outscored in the field as they shot 35.1 percent to the Wildcats 44.6 percent. Cornell outshot Northwestern from three 29.4 percent to 25.0 percent. Both teams were even from the free-throw line shooting 75 percent apiece.
The first quarter began back-and-forth until the end when Northwestern went on a four-point run to give itself a cushion heading into the second quarter. In the second, the teams traded multi-score runs back and forth, a battle which the Wildcats ended up winning to further their lead in the game to 36-28 at the half. The second half began with a quick bucket for Cornell that was followed by a nine-point run for Northwestern that the Big Red struggled to eat away at as they closed it to seven going into the final 10 minutes. Cornell was able to get the Wildcats lead cut to just three, but then Northwestern answered with a 10-point run to finish the game 67-54.
