ITHACA N.Y. – Cornell men's track and field walk away from the weekend on top in five events on the second day of the Greg Page Relays to open its season.
Ryder King finished first in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.00 seconds.
Cornell swept the podium in the 200m with Domenic Barresi (21.59), Panashe Nhenga (22.18), and Jeremy Henderson, with a personal-best time of 22.24, taking the top three slots. Michael Mazero with a personal-best time of 34.35 and Fabien De Silva with a time of 34.49 then followed up with a first and second place finish in the 300m, landing themselves in Cornell record books at fifth and seventh.
For the relay teams, Barresi, Mazero, De Silva and Jeremy Henderson placed first in the 4x400m with a time of 3:17.86.
Freshman Peter Northrup had a great debut with a 16.92m shot put mark to place first. Mannie Arbabi ended in third in the shot put with a throw of 14.00m. Other field event placers included Stepan Matura with a 7.23m jump to finish second in the long jump and Michael Prieto placed second in the high jump with a mark of 2.03m.
Also finishing in the top three of their respective events include Colin Martens (4:20.17) and Jack Lenz (4:24.63) in second and third in the mile, Ryan Johnson placed third in the 1000m with a personal-best time of 2:29.58, Jack Daly with a time of 1:06.02 to place second in the 500m and two 4x800 relay teams consisting of Asher Patel, Zach Winnicki, Ryan Johnson, Adam Martinson in second (8:01.42) and Colin Martens, Rithikh Prakash, Andrew Ordway, Nick Norris in third (8:11.94).
Josh Ochalek competed in the men's heptathlon that took place across two days. The freshman placed third with a total score of 4233. Today, most notably he placed first in the heptathlon 1000m with a time of 2:55.41 to earn 710 points towards his final score.
In Boston
Cornell track and field sent three distance runners to the BU Sharon Colyear-Danvile Season Opener: Derek Amicon, Pierre Attiogbe, & Damian Hackett.
Attiogbe broke the school record in the indoor 3000m run with a time of 7:51.84 to place 16th in the field of 113.
Amicon and Hackett both competed in the 5000m. Amicon ran a time of 13:45.39 to set a new school indoor record. Hackett finished right behind him with a time of 13:48.02 to land himself second in the record books for the indoor 5000m run.
