CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- Cornell women's tennis dropped a 4-0 decision to No. 4-seeded Harvard on Saturday morning. The Big Red fell to 2-3 with the loss, while Harvard improved to 5-2.
Doubles action kicked off the day, with
Michelle Ryndin and
Alexandra Savu competing in the No. 1 match against Holly Fischer and Stephanie Yakoff. Harvard to the match 6-0 to take an early lead, but
Jenny Wong and
Victoria Zhao triumphed in the No. 2 doubles match, besting Iveta Daujotaite and Rachel Arbitman, 6-4.
Emma Baker and
Gia Graziano battled to try and secure the doubles point for the Big Red, but Harvard's Natalie Block and Sany Gawande took the 6-4 win and gave the Crimson a 1-0 lead.
In singles play, Savu dropped in the No. 5 match to Kate Kim, 6-2, 6-0.
Martina Marica followed in the No. 6 singles with a 6-0, 6-1 loss to Kavya Karra, and Stephanie Yakoff finished off the Harvard victory with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Wong in the No. 3 singles. Baker, Ryndin, and Graziano's matches all went down as unfinished.
Cornell is back in action tomorrow to face off against Penn in the battle for seventh place. The action begins at 8 a.m. at the Murr Tennis Courts.
