CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- Cornell women's tennis dropped a 4-2 decision to Penn in the seventh-place game at the 2024 ECAC Championship. The Big Red falls to 2-4 on the season, while Penn improves to 8-2.
Cornell snagged its first doubles point of the tournament with wins in two of the three battles.
Jenny Wong and
Victoria Zhao kicked things off with a 6-2 win in the No. 2 doubles.
Emma Baker and
Gia Graziano fought in the No. 3 doubles but lost to Penn's Liza Tkachenko and Sasha Motlagh, 6-4.
Michelle Ryndin and
Alexandra Savu stole the No.1 doubles match with a 7-6 (7-2) thriller over Esha Velaga and Eileen Wang.
The No. 1 singles match was the first to wrap, where Quaker Esha Velaga bested
Emma Baker 6-2, 6-2. Liza Tkachenko gave Penn a 2-1 lead with a 6-2, 7-5 victory over
Gia Graziano.
Jenny Wong battled against Eileen Wang to force a crucial third set but lost 6-2, 6-7 (3-7), 6-4.
Michelle Ryndin got the final Big Red win of the day with a 1-6, 7-6 (7-5), 6-1 bout against Gavriella Smith. Saige Roshkoff sealed the Penn victory with a 6-2, 6-3 win over
Alexandra Savu. The No. 6 singles match between Matrina Marica and Maya Urata. went down as unfinished.
Cornell is back to the court on Saturday, Feb. 17 when the team hosts Rutgers at 12 p.m. at the Reis Tennis Center.
