Box Score HANOVER, N.H. -- Dartmouth cashed in on free throws in the final minute of action to keep the game out of reach for Cornell as the Big Red was downed, 48-44, in Leede Arena on Saturday evening. With the setback, Cornell falls to 7-15 (1-9 Ivy), while Dartmouth improves to 7-15 (1-9 Ivy).
Cornell's one double-digit scorer, freshman
Rachel Kaus, tallied a game-high 18 points and five assists. She finished second on Cornell in rebounding, grabbing seven boards.
Emily Pape neared double-digits with eight points and grabbed a game-best 15 rebounds. The 15 boards mark the most of her career. Pape and
Kaya Ingram each tallied two steals in the outing.
Clare Meyer and Victoria Page each hit double-figures for Dartmouth, accounting for 14 and 13 points respectively. Meyer led the Big Green with 11 rebounds. Nina Minicozzi led Dartmouth in assists with three.
Cornell was held scoreless over the first 3:50 of play until
Rachel Kaus found
Emily Pape in the lane to make it a 5-2 Big Red deficit. The teams traded baskets into the first media timeout, but the momentum stayed with the Big Reen, as Dartmouth built out a 15-8 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Vivienne Knee got the Big Red on the boards to open the second with a deep two-pointer, sparking a 6-0 run for Cornell, giving the road team a 16-15 lead, forcing a timeout from Dartmouth head coach, Linda Cimino. The Big Red remained unphased holding Dartmouth scoreless for the entire quarter while boosting its lead to 10 at the horn.
Dartmouth opened the third quarter with a 10-4 run leading into the media timeout, chopping Cornell down to a four-point lead with 4:47 remaining in the third. An intentional foul committed by Dartmouth's Victoria Page helped the Big Red pull away to an eight-point advantage before a three-pointer for Dartmouth dropped the lead back to five for Cornell.
It was the Dartmouth defense again to open the fourth, using a 9-2 run to retake the lead with 5:58 remaining. The Big Green continued to expand its lead to 43-37 until
Lexi Green hit a three to make it a one-possession game. A scoop-and-score attempt by
Clarke Jackson was soiled by the home team, which forced a jump ball on the rebound to retake possession. The Big Red defense held strong, forcing a Dartmouth turnover on an out-of-bounds pass and Cornell used its final timeout to advance the ball into the offensive half, but the designed three-point shot for
Mia Beam went long. Dartmouth converted on five of the six final free throws to keep the game out of reach for the Big Red.
