BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Cornell women's tennis fought to the end, but Indiana emerged victorious, earning the 4-3 victory on Sunday afternoon. The Big Red falls to 3-8 with the loss, while Indiana improves to 6-7.
The doubles competition opened with a 6-1 loss by
Jenny Wong and
Victoria Zhao at the hands of Lene Mari Hovda and Elisabeth Dunac.
Michelle Ryndin and
Alexandra Savu rallied to a 6-4 win over Li Hsin Lin and Sarah L'allier to force the No. 1 match to decide the point.
Emma Baker and
Lauren Stein secured the point for the Big Red with a 6-4 win over Lara Schneider and Nicole Teodosescu.
Ryndin extended the Cornell lead to two with a 6-2, 7-5, win over Nicole Teodosescu in the No. 2 singles match. Indiana found life, besting
Victoria Zhao and
Emma Baker in the No. 5 and No. 3 matches, respectively. The Hoosiers continued their winning ways when Li Hsin Lin took down
Jenny Wong, 4-6, 6-2, 6-2 in the No. 4 match, giving Indiana a 3-2 lead.
Lauren Stein rallied in the No. 1 match. 2-6, 6-3, 6-3, to level the playing field, but Indiana's Magda Swierczynska closed out the day with a 6-2, 4-6, 7-5 win over
Gia Graziano in the No. 6 match.
Cornell is back in action next weekend when the team travels to the University of Buffalo to take on the Bison on Saturday, March 2. Matches are set to begin at 1:30 p.m. in Buffalo, N.Y.
