BUFFALO, N.Y. -- The Big Red downed Buffalo in a 5-2 decision on Saturday afternoon at the Miller Tennis Center in Buffalo, N.Y. The win marks Cornell's fourth win in the past five meetings between the in-state foes. Cornell improved to 4-8 on the season with the win, while Buffalo fell to 13-3.
The Big Red started off behind the eight ball after dropping two straight doubles matches to give the Bulls an early 1-0 lead.
Gia Graziano and Matina Marica dropped a 6-1 final to Jagmeet Kaur and Deanna Choo, and
Emma Baker and
Lauren Stein fell by the same score to Ambre Amat and Esmee Anderson. The match between
Jenny Wong and
Victoria Zhao and Azra Comlek and Laura Koralnik went down as unfinished.
Lauren Stein got the Big Red back on track with a 6-2, 6-2 victory in the No. 1 singles match against Jagmeet Kaur.
Michelle Ryndin followed with a 0-6, 6-2, 6-1Â win over Azra Comlek in the No. 2 match. Ambre Amat stole the No. 5 match to knot the game at 2-2 with a 7-5, 7-5 victory over Vicotria Zhao, but
Gia Graziano finished a 7-6 (7-2), 6-4 No. 6 match to give Cornell the edge.
Emma Baker posted a 6-1, 3-6, 6-3 win over Laura Koralnik and
Jenny Wong tallied a 6-4, 4-6, 7-5 rally win to give Cornell its fourth win of the season.
Following the match at Buffalo, the Big Red takes on another double-match weekend when the team faces Deleware on Saturday, March 9, and Drexel on Sunday, March 10, both in road tests.
