Elkinton Captures Shot Put Crown, Big Red Earns Sixth At The 2024 Ivy League Heptagonal Championships

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The Cornell women's track and field team earned a sixth-place finish at the 2024 Ivy League Heptagonal Championships. The Big Red's 43 points was a 10 point jump from last year's Heptagonal Championship score, proving a steady run of improvement. Noelle Elkinton collected the lone individual title among the Big Red athletes, to pair with numerous podium finishes on the weekend.

Elkinton Earns Gold
Elkinton captured 10 points for the Big Red and the shot put crown, throwing a career-best 15.29 meters which put her in the top spot over Princeton's Iheoma. Elkinton's incredible shot put jolted her up to the second spot in the Cornell record book.

Big Red On The Podium
Haquet claimed four points for the Big Red as she ran her personal-best mile in a time of 4:40.90, making her fourth in Cornell history. Charli Stewart earned a Cornell point, making the podium in the shot put with a sixth-place 13.79-meter throw. Delaney Benedict (55.66 seconds) and Reyne Rodrigues (56.71 seconds) finished fifth and sixth in the 400-meter dash respectively, adding three total points to the team score. Elise Sawyer tacked on a Big Red point due to her 1:16.17 sixth-place time in the 500-meter dash.

Lauren Jones sprinted her way onto the podium, collecting a fifth-place 7.55-second finish in the 60-meter dash. Gwen Parks personal-best 2:48.19 time in the 1000-meter run ushered her onto the podium. Making her Heps debut, Imani Reid made the podium and helped the team by adding a point to the score by placing sixth in the 200-meter dash.

Cornell gained 10 points in the relay events, earning six in the 4x800 (Katja Jackson, Haquet, Bridget Forbes, Parks - 8:47.91) and four in the 4x400 (Sawyer, Justine Hounsell, Rodrigues, Benedict).
