ITHACA, N.Y. — Cornell men's hockey freshman forward
Ryan Walsh has been named ECAC Hockey's Rookie of the Week, the conference office announced Monday morning.
Walsh is the second Big Red player to earn the weekly honor for the best newcomer, joining
Jonathan Castagna, who received the accolade two weeks ago.
In Cornell's sweep of North Country rivals St. Lawrence and Clarkson, Walsh scored two goals, both of which were the game-winners against the Saints and Golden Knights. Walsh was the lone ECAC Hockey player to have multiple game-winning goals this past weekend.
Fellow freshmen
Luke Devlin and
Jake Kraft and junior
Kyle Penney matched Walsh's two-goal weekend for the most goals scored by any Cornell player. The goal totals were tied for the second-most among all ECAC Hockey players, trailing Dartmouth's Luke Haymes, who was named ECAC Hockey's Forward of the Week after his four-goal weekend against Princeton and Quinnipiac.
Having played in all 21 games for the Big Red this season, Walsh is tied for the team lead with senior
Gabriel Seger (9-17—26) and sophomore
Dalton Bancroft (9-11—20) in goals with nine.
Riding a 10-game unbeaten streak, No. 13-ranked Cornell (13-4-4, 8-4-2 ECAC) returns to action this weekend when it travels to the Capital Region for a pair of contests against RPI (8-16-2, 5-8-1 ECAC) and Union (12-12-2, 6-6-2 ECAC). Both games are slated for 7 p.m. puck drops, with game action being broadcast on ESPN+ and over the airwaves on WHCU (870 AM, 97.7 FM, whcuradio.com).
