PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- Cornell women's tennis made a streak of its wins this afternoon when it beat Drexel, 5-2, on the road. All five of the Big Red's wins came from singles matches. With the win, Cornell improved to 6-8 on the season while Drexel fell to 5-3.
The Dragons started the day with a 6-2 victory in the no. 2 doubles over Cornell's
Jenny Wong and
Victoria Zhao.
Michelle Ryndin and
Martina Marica dropped the no. 3 doubles match in a 6-4 decision, giving Drexel a 1-0 lead and suspending the no. 1 match the Lauren Stiend and
Emma Baker were battling in.
Michelle Ryndin was the spark the Big Red needed in the second half, posting a quick 6-2, 6-4 victory over Elisa Rigazio.
Lauren Stein followed with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Lorie Lemongo in the no. 1 singles match to give Cornell its first lead. Drexel's Isabel Cabrerizo took down
Emma Baker, 7-5, 6-1, to tie the game at two, but
Gia Graziano responded with a 6-2, 6-2, win in the no. 5 singles.
Jenny Wong sealed the Cornell win with a 6-2, 1-6, 6-1 win over Maddie Ricardo in the no.4 match, and
Tanya Fan earned the Big Red's insurance with a 4-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-4), win against Adva Dabah.
After the five-match road stand, Cornell returns home to the Reis Tennis Center to host St. Bonaventure on Saturday, March 16. Matches are set to begin at 12 p.m.
