Schiff Nets A Pair, Bergmann Logs Shutout As Big Red Advance To ECAC Hockey Championship Weekend

ITHACA, N.Y. - The no. 6-ranked Cornell women's ice hockey team defeated no. 9 Quinnipiac 5-0 on Saturday evening at Lynah Rink to advance to ECAC Hockey championship weekend for the first time since 2019-20. The Big Red improves to 24-6-1, while the Bobcats drop to 25-11-1.

Georgia Schiff (two), Lily Delianedis, Mckenna Van Gelder, and Avi Adam netted Big Red goals in the game. Kaitlin Jockins (two), Grace Dwyer (two), Izzy Daniel, Schiff, Claudia Yu, Gabbie Rud, and Rory Guilday recorded assists in the contest.

It would be the Big Red who would start off the scoring, when Schiff found the back of the net on a rebound from Jockims that played out eerily similar to the opening goal in game one. Cornell was aggresive early on the offensive end paired with a fierce effort on the defensive end, managing 11 shots-on-goal to Quinnipiac's four in the first period.

That pressure would not slow down in the next period, as the Big Red would get 15 shots on the net with two being successful. On the first tally of the second period, Izzy Daniel found her long-time line-mate Delianedis in the slot who would put the puck between Anger's legs for the score. Van Gelder would extend the lead to three eight minutes later when Jockims found her cutting across the slot for a tip-in.

Yu would make an unselfish cross-pass to Adam at the beggining of the third frame who added another goal on the board for Cornell on a precise tap-in. When the Bobcats pulled their goaltender at the four-minute mark, it would back-fire as Guilday blocked a Quinnipiac shot that laid out the opportunity for Schiff to tack on her second of the evening, which she would do to put the game on ice.

Annelies Bergmann collected 11 saves for her fourth shutout of the season. She moves to 19-5-1 on the year. Bergmann is one win away from moving to fifth-place in Cornell goaltender wins history (NCAA Era), along with Marlene Boissonnault '19.
