Quatrani Named Ivy League Rookie of the Week

ITHACA, N.Y. — Cornell baseball freshman catcher Mark Quatrani has been named the Ivy League's Rookie of the Week, it was announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon.

Registering a .444 batting average (4-for-9) with three home runs and driving in nine RBI in the Big Red's three-game series sweep of Dartmouth at Booth Field this past weekend, Quatrani is Cornell's first weekly award winner since pitcher Luke Yacinich was tabbed Ivy League Pitcher of the Week on May 9, 2022. It is Cornell's first Rookie of the Week honor since Max Jensen on Feb. 28, 2022.

In his first appearance on the weekend, Quatrani hit two home runs and drove in six RBI in the Big Red's 17-2 victory to solidify a doubleheader sweep of the Big Green on Saturday. The multi-home run performance was Cornell's first since Will Simoneit in 2019 against Penn, and was the first time a Big Red fresman player hit multiple home runs in a game since Gary Kaczor against Temple in the 1977 NCAA Tournament in Middletown, Conn. Quatrani's six-RBI performance was the most in a game since Ellis Bitar in 2018. also against Penn.

Aiding Cornell to its first three-game series sweep since 2013, Quatrani hit an opposite field three-run home run to cap a five-run first inning for the Big Red in its 11-4 triumph on Sunday.

Over nine appearances this season, Quatrani is batting .258 with a triple, a team-leading five home runs, and has driven in 15 runs. The Springfield, Pa., native has a .806 slugging percentage, leading to a 1.130 on-base-plus-slugging percentage (OPS).

Winners of its last four games, Cornell (6-11, 4-2 Ivy League) will return to action this weekend when it hosts Harvard (4-16, 2-4 Ivy League) in a three-game series at Booth Field. The series is scheduled to begin on Saturday with an 11:30 a.m. doubleheader, followed by a 12 p.m. first pitch on Sunday.
