ITHACA, N.Y. -- Cornell women's tennis celebrated senior day by honoring
Lauren Stein on Saturday afternoon, and added a 4-2 victory over Brown along the way. The win, which marked Cornell's first conference victory of the season, improved the Big Red to 8-13 (1-5 Ivy). Brown fell to 10-12 (1-5 Ivy) with the loss. The win marked just the second over Brown in the last seven meetings.
Doubles play opened up the day for the Big Red. Senior
Lauren Stein and
Emma Baker got the first Cornell win of the day with a 6-1 victory over Pheobe Peus and Lindsey Hofflander.
Jenny Wong and
Victoria Zhao battled in the No. 2 doubles match but fell 6-3 to Ali Benedetto and Addison Ahlstrom to force the third match decider.
Michelle Ryndin and
Alexandra Savu took care of business, taking a 6-4 decision over Nora Lee and Dani Ben-Abraham in the No. 3 match to take the double point.
Brown found a step to open single play. Anne Yang took down
Tanya Fan in the No. 6 match, 6-2, 6-0, to knot the score at one.
Victoria Zhao has the Answer with a 6-4, 7-5 win over Dani Ben-Abraham in the No. 5 match. Pheobe Peus took the No, 1 singles match with a three-set battle, 2-6, 6-4, 6-1 over
Lauren Stein to again tie the contest at two.
Emma Baker took the No. 3 singles match, 7-5, 7-5 over Gabby Soliman to retake the Cornell lead. It was
Michelle Ryndin who secured the Cornell victory with a 5-7, 6-1, 6-4 comeback victory over Ali Benedetto in the No. 2 singles match.
Cornell is back in action tomorrow when the team takes on #49 Yale for the season finale. First serve is set for 1 p.m. at the Reis Tennis Center in Ithaca, N.Y.
