Hastings Sets Freshman Record at Virginia Challenge, Six Athletes Win At Cortland Classic

CORTLAND, N.Y. - The Big Red women's track and field team had a full weekend, competing at the Virginia Challenge and the Cortland Classic. Six athletes took victories in Cortland, while Augustine Haquet was a first-placer at the Virginia Classic. Avery Hastings set a new freshman record in the Hammer Throw. Four Cornellians earned marks that shifted the Big Red top-10 records. 

At the Virginia Classic, Haquet was the overall winner in the 800-meter sections. She paced her way to a time of 2:08.71. Her 1500-meter dash (sixth - 4:17.13) efforts were strong enough to move her to the third-place spot in Cornell history. 

At the Cortland Classic, Maisie McManus was the 800-meter champion, pacing a mark of 2:18.98. Kate Ahmari was the first-place runner in the 1500-meter run due to a 4:55.16 finish. Nyia Cummings earned the top spot in the 400-meter hurdles with her 1:06.88 time. Avery Hilliard had another strong day in the pole vault, winning with a 3.90-meter mark. Sarah Caldwell claimed victory in the triple jump, leading a distance of 11.69 meters. Stella Williams was crowned Javelin champion, earning a 32.52-meter throw.

Next In Line
The Cornell women's track and field team will split up for a two-meet weekend, hosting the Big Red Invite at Kane Sports Complex on Sunday, Apr. 28, and traveling to the City of Brotherly Love for competition at the Penn Relays (Thursday, Apr. 25 - Saturday, Apr. 27) at Franklin Field.
