Comfere, Jackson Lead Big Red in Wake Forest Day One

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — The Cornell women's outdoor track and field team opened competition at the Wake Forest Invitational on Thursday evening, turning in a strong performance in the 800-meter run.

Freshman Sophia Comfere kicked off the Big Red with a first-place finish in the 800m open (heat eight), crossing the line in 2:07.99. Senior Katja Jackson added a seventh-place finish in her 800m open heat, recording a time of 2:07.41. With the performance, Jackson currently ranks No. 105 in Division I in the 800m this outdoor season.

Cornell will continue competition Friday across split sites. Action at the Wake Forest Invitational resumes at 2 p.m., beginning with track events, with live results available on xpresstiming.com.

The remainder of the squad will begin competition at the Navy Invitational in Annapolis, Maryland, starting at 12 p.m. with the multi events. Live results for that meet will be available on leonetiming.com.
