PRINCETON, N.J. -- The Cornell golf team turned a corner, carding its best 18-hole score (305) and had eight birdies during the final round of the Princeton Invitational from the Springdale Golf Club on Sunday. Cornell, who carded a combined 937 over the three rounds (325-307-305), finished 14th overall.
The team-best score on Sunday's final round was led by Viktor Stollinger, who shot an even-par 71, shaving nine strokes off his back-to-back 80s over the first two rounds to rise a tournament-best 20 spots to earn a tie for 52nd overall. The freshman had a team-high four birdies on the day, with two each coming on the front and back nine. Teammate Tyler Debusschere (76-77-78-231) also earned a tie for 52nd after securing par or better on 11 of the 18 holes played on Sunday afternoon.
Char Russekoff also had his best round on Sunday, using two birdies and 10 other holes at par to finish with a five-over-76 and jump up six spots to finish 67th (83-77-76-236). Tismark Boham (83-74-89-246) and Jackson Debusschere (86-82-79-247) closed out the scoring for the Big Red. Weston Warden also competed on Sunday with a 77 to finish 73rd.
Princeton's Riccardo Fantinelli and Howard's Everett Whiten Jr. shared the medalist honors with a six-under-207. Fantinelli also had the best round of any golfer with a 65 on movement day to rise 11 spots to earn a tie for the top spot. Wenliang Xie (Seton Hall), Jackson Fretty (Princeton), and Gregory Odom Jr. (Howard) followed a stroke behind to earn a tie for third with a five-under-208 over the 54-hole tournament. The Tigers also took home the team championship, putting together a tournament-best nine-under 275 to jump Howard (285-281-290) and win by 13 strokes. Seton Hall (290-279-288-857), Columbia (285-287-296-868), and Yale (294-285-292-871) rounded out the top five of the team leaderboard for the tournament.
UP NEXT
Cornell will have one more tune-up before postseason action begins, heading to the Wiltwyck Golf Club in Kingston, N.Y. for the 2024 Columbia Roar-EE Invitational. The two-round event will be on Saturday, April 13. The Big Red will look to match its tie for second place in the rain-shortened event hosted by the Lions a year ago.
