Quatrani, Quinlan Receive Multiple All-Ivy Awards

ITHACA, N.Y. — Freshman catcher Mark Quatrani and junior outfielder John Quinlan each received multiple All-Ivy awards as a part of the league's annual award announcement on Thursday afternoon.

Earning an All-Ivy First Team selection as a catcher, freshman Mark Quatrani was also named the Ivy League's Rookie of the Year, becoming just the third Big Red player to be named the Ancient Eight's top newcomer, joining Bill Walkenbach (1995) and Kellen Urbon (2012).

Quatrani appeared in 19 of the Big Red's 21 Ivy League contests, batting .333 with two doubles, seven home runs, and 30 RBI. The 30 ribbies for Quatrani set a program record for RBI in conference play, besting a 29-RBI season by Brian Kaufman in 2006.

Across his 26 appearances this season, Quatrani batted .330 with nine home runs and 36 RBI while posting a team-leading 1.130 OPS. His nine home runs are the most by a Cornell freshman in program history, besting a six-home run season by Walkenbach during his Rookie of the Year compaign in 1995.

Joining Quatrani as First Team All-Ivy selection was junior infielder Max Jensen as a first baseman and junior outfielder John Quinlan. Both Jensen and Quinlan were two of eight unanimous First Team selections, joining Columbia's Joe Sheets, Griffin Palfrey and Sam Miller, Harvard's Ben Rounds, Penn's Wyatt Henseler, and Princeton's Jacob Faulkner.

Quinlan registered a team-best .424 batting average in conference games, finishing second in the Ivy League behind Henseler, who was unanimously tabbed the Ivy League Player of the Year. Along with his batting average in Ancient Eight contests, he had five doubles, one triple, three home runs, and 13 RBI.

In 29 games this year, Quinlan has hit a team-leading .395 batting average with seven doubles, two triples, five home runs, 18 RBI, and stole a team-leading 10 bases.

Jensen batted .402 across all 21 Ivy League games, logging five doubles, a triple, three home runs, and driving in 26 Big Red runs. His 37 hits in conference play this season are tied for the sixth-most by a player in EIBL / Ivy League history.

Playing in 33 of the Big Red's 34 games this season, Jensen has a .371 batting average with seven doubles, two doubles, five home runs, and 33 RBI, while drawing 17 walks and striking out just 11 times.

The trio of first-team selections marks Cornell's first time it has multiple First Team All-Ivy selections when Ellis Bitar (catcher) and Ryan Krainz (second base) received top honors in 2018. It is Cornell's first time registering at least three first team selections since having a quartet of players earn First Team All-EIBL honors in 1982 (Mike Branca - first base; Marlin McPhail - second base; John DeMayo - outfield; Greg Myers - pitcher).

In addition to his First Team All-Ivy nod, Quinlan was tabbed Cornell's Academic All-Ivy selection, registering a 3.822 cumulative grade-point average as an applied economics and management major.

Junior right-handed pitcher Chris Ellison also was named an Honorable Mention All-Ivy selection as a relief pitcher after posting a 3-0 record with a 2.57 ERA over his nine relief appearances. In his outings, Ellison logged 14 innings on the mound, yielding four runs on six hits and holding opponents to a .133 batting average. Across 13 appearances (all of which have been in relief), Ellison has a 3-0 record with a 4.67 ERA and holding opponents to hit at just a .169 clip.
