Sailing Hosts Dual Regattas, Sends Delegation to Navy

ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Cornell sailing team, after opening the season with a perfect 1-2-3 finish at the Kings Point Women's Regatta and a fifth-place spot at the Kings Point Open, is set to take on a three-regatta weekend from Saturday, September 14 to Sunday, September 15. The Big Red will host the Susan Rogers '75 and Jock Boehringer '52 Memorial Regattas on Cayuga Lake, while also sending a group of sailors to Annapolis, Md., to compete at the Faye Bennett Women's Singlehanded regatta, hosted by Navy.

Last weekend, Bridget GreenSophia Mulvania, Winborne Majette, Sophia Fogarty, Sophia Devling, Amelia Neumann, Gilda Dondona, Sophia Pearce, Ava Gustafson, Kate Moran, Pilar Cundey, and Kathi Keller combined efforts to finish first. second, and third, taking the top three spots at the Women's Regatta at the KP Invite. The group collected 34 top-three finishes, including 13 first-place finishes. The third-place Cornell boat finished over 50 points ahead of fourth-place finisher Penn.

Two home regattas mean two slates of opponents. The Big Red is set to take on Fordham, Hobart & William Smith, NY Maritime, Kings Point, and Penn at the Susan Rogers. The teams will field boats in three divisions, competing in 14 races in each division. The same teams will compete in an identical format at the Jack Boehringer in an open format, where men and women sailors alike will compete. At last season's pair of events, Cornell took the top spot in both regattas.

Following the tri-regatta weekend, Cornell remains at home, hosting the MAISA Top 9 Combined Women's regatta and the Top 9 Combined Open regatta on Lake Cayuga from Saturday, September 21 through Sunday, September 22.
