VALPARAISO, Ind. – The Cornell volleyball team (4-2) sweeps Miami OH in their final match of the Popcorn Classic on Saturday morning.
Junior Eliza Konvicka marks her fourth-straight game leading the Big Red in kills with 15 on the day as well as eight digs and two blocks.
The freshmen Haley Clark and Mackenzie Parsons and sophomore Jaida Sione each supplied seven kills as well.
The defensive crew dug up 57 balls, main contributors included Sarita Pomar (13), Jackie Baker (13) and Doga Ozalp (11).
First Set (25-22 Cornell)
Cornell started strong with an ace from Pomar followed directly by a kill from Parsons to start up 2-0.
Miami pushed ahead with their first lead of the match at 5-6.
The Big Red responded with a five-point run to go up 12-10 and push the RedHawks into a timeout.
The match will go on to be tied up six more times before Cornell pulled ahead with a 3-0 run featuring blocks by Parsons, Konvicka and Clark.
The Big Red would hold onto that lead to win the set 25-22.
Second Set (25-21 Cornell)
The RedHawks utilized an early 4-1 run to pull ahead 3-7.
Cornell then strung together six-straight points to pull ahead 12-9. The run included three kills (Konvicka, Clark, Camryn Carlo) and a block assist by Clark and Carlo.
Miami responded with a 7-1 run to switch the lead at 13-16.
Back-to-back kills from Sione at 16-18 and 17-18 brought the Big Red within one point before a 6-0 rally to finish out the set 25-21.
Third Set (25-15 Cornell)
The Big Red kept its foot on the gas, starting the final set up 5-1.
Brooke Cooper came in for the Big Red and contributed back-to-back kills for the Big Red to lengthen the lead 13-8.
Not letting Miami get close to them, Cornell wrapped up the second set with an 10-point lead (25-15).
