ITHACA, N.Y. -- Cornell sailing tacked on its third podium finish in as many weeks when the team hosted the MAISA Top 9 Combined Women's Regatta on Lake Cayuga on September 21 and 22. The Big Red also tallied a 7th-place finish at the Top 9 Combined Open Regatta, also hosted on Lake Cayuga this weekend.
At the women's regatta, Cornell's A and B division boats placed second and fifth overall. Sophomore
Winborne Majette and freshman
Ava Gustafson shared skipper duties while sophomore
Kate Moran and senior
Amelia Neumann shared crew responsibilities in the A boat, combining for 88 points. The B boat was skippered by freshman
Gilda Dondona and sophomore
Pilar Cundey, while Neumann, freshmen
Kathi Keller and
Ava Stevens, and junior
Sophia Mulvania shared the crew duties, tallying 106, just three points shy of the top B division finisher, Georgetown.
In the open, Cornell placed seventh and 17th overall in both the A and B divisions. juniors
Sophia Devling, Boris Bialer, and
Maya Conway all served as skippers while freshman
Hope Campbell, sophomore Wynne Williams, and junior
Sophia Pearce acted as crew. They posted 140 points. The B division boat of freshmen Marcus Greco and
Sara Ortiz Vey (skippers), and a crew of senior
Sophia Fogarty and juniors
Sophia Pearce and
Kate Constan tallied 209 points.
Cornell is back to the waters next weekend when it travels to the Women's ACC Semifinals at Brown and the Danmark Trophy at Coast Guard. Action for both is set to begin on Saturday, September 28, and continue through Sunday, September 29.
