Annapolis, Md. – The Cornell volleyball team opens up the Kristen Dickmann Invitational against Liberty with a 3-0 sweep.
Senior Eliza Konvicka led the Big Red with 16 kills while adding four digs and four blocks on a .429 hitting percentage. Freshman Haley Clark made her debut with 11 kills on top of four aces.
Junior Doga Ozalp led Cornell with 38 assist and three digs to start off the 2024 season.
Libero Trinidy Tien and Clark paced the defense with nine digs each
First Set (25-23 Cornell)
In the opening set, the Big Red and the Flames traded points early before a 5-0 run put Cornell up 14-6.
After that the points battle continued until the very end with a kill by Clark to rise above 24-23 and then blocks from Camryn Carlo and Konvicka seal the first set 25-23.
Second Set (25-22 Cornell)
The second match started back up with a kill from Carlo.
The rest of the frame was a tight affair that featured 14 ties and six lead changes.
A kill from freshman Mackenzie Parsons at 20-19 turned around the momentum for the Big Red to come out on top of the middle set.
Third Set (25-18 Cornell)
The last set was all Cornell. The Big Red went on five separate 0-3 plus runs.
Konvicka totaled for eight kills in the final set followed with four by sophomore Jaida Sione
The set was put away with one final service ace from Clark.
